![]() 1922-2008 As a kid growing up in New Jersey in the '60s and '70s, game show hosts were my heroes. While the other kids in the neighborhood collected Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays and Joe Nameth baseball and football cards I collected autographs and TV GUIDE photos of my superstars; TOM KENNEDY, BILL CULLEN, WINK MARTINDALE, MONTY HALL, PETER MARSHALL, GARRY MOORE, BOB EUBANKS, ALLEN LUDDEN, GENE RAYBURN and at the top of that list, JACK NARZ. I called CBS (Television City on Beverly Blvd.) and asked for the series, NOW YOU SEE IT. I mentioned to the person who answered the phone that I was a fan of Jack Narz and could I please speak with him. Oddly enough, Jack happened to be right next to the person at CBS and Jack came to the phone. I could not believe I was speaking to Jack Narz. For years I watched Jack on BEAT THE CLOCK (seen locally in NJ and NY on WPIX-TV), bow he was on the phone. We spoke briefly....enough to turn me into a life long fan of Jack Narz. Jack took down my address and sent me an autographed photo (which I still have). Imagine the surprise of the neighborhood kids when I showed them my Jack Narz autograph. Any nit-wit can collect baseball cards, but no one had a Jack Narz autograph!! Fast forward. Over the next 30 years I was damn proud to call JACK NARZ a friend. We had lunches. I've met his wonderful wife Dodo. Exchanged game show career photos. I booked Jack on numerous shows. I cherish the time I spent with this kind hearted, talented man. Jack had that wonderful Dean Martin quality about him. He seemed so relaxed as an emcee coupled with his blessed voice. He truly is a pioneer, as well as a true icon. I quietly was in tears while attending the Game Show Congress as I saw Jack and brother Tom Kennedy receive the Bill Cullen Award from Pat Carroll. How special! Jack will be greatly missed. Most greats are. However, thru his superb body of work we can catch Jack on GSN, You Tube and other media. God Bless, Jack.
